History
Aereo was founded in 2013 in Bengaluru, India, initially operating under the name Aarav Unmanned Systems. The company was launched by IIT Kanpur graduates Vipul Singh and Suhas Banshiwala, along with Nishant Sinha, to harness drone technology for industrial applications. Over the years, Aereo developed drone platforms offering real-time data collection and analysis, contributing to sectors like land surveying, disaster management, and rural development.[2]
In 2022, Aarav Unmanned Systems rebranded to Aereo to better reflect its focus on aerial intelligence and expanded market offerings.[3]
Products and Services
Aereo provides a wide range of drone-based solutions for Geospatial analysis, land parcel mapping, and industrial monitoring. The company’s drones are equipped with advanced sensors and cameras for accurate data collection, which is processed using their proprietary AI-based analytics platform.[4]
One of Aereo’s flagship solutions includes its aerial intelligence platform, which has been widely adopted in Mining for monitoring extraction processes and Agriculture for crop health assessment.[5]
In 2023, Aereo collaborated with Coal India to digitize seven coal mines using its drone technology, enabling real-time surveillance and operational efficiency.[6][7]

In 2024, the company raised $1.8 million in an extended Series B round to expand its drone fleet and enhance its aerial intelligence capabilities.[4] This followed a $15 million Series B round led by Blume Ventures in 2023 to scale its operations across India and internationally.[8]
The company also received incentives under the Indian government’s Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) for drones in 2023, positioning Aereo as a key player in India’s drone manufacturing ecosystem.[9]

Aereo has established key partnerships with government bodies and educational institutions. In 2024, the company partnered with S J C Institute of Technology (SJCIT) to open the first Centre of Excellence for drone education and remote pilot training.[10]
